Kindle 2 Wireless Reading Device FAQs
1. What are the biggest differences between the original Kindle and the new Kindle 2?
Amazon's newest wireless reading device has a variety of new features designed based on input from Kindle 1
owners. Here are a few of the differences:
- Better resolution screen - uses the newest Digital Ink technology
- More shades of gray - now displays 16 shades of gray vs. 4 shades. This makes graphics and web browsing
more enjoyable.
- Faster performance - page changes in particular are much faster.
- Faster wireless - 3G technology built-in.
- Text to Speech - Many books can be "read" by a digital voice as you follow along with the text. This
feature is somewhat controversial with authors right now since they believe it infringes on their
copyright for audio books. The feature can be disabled by publishers.
- Thinner - much thinner than the original Kindle
- Better positioning of navigation buttons - fewer accidental page turns
- 5-way navigator - easier navigation while reading or browsing the web - replaces the scroll wheel.
