How-To Save and Display Pictures on Your Kindle
Digg!

1. First, understand that your Amazon Kindle Wireless Reading Device is designed to display black and white text. The Kindle's ability to display pictures is limited, but you may wish to bring special photos with you to view on your Kindle.

2. Next, prepare your photos for display on your Kindle. You will need to do a limited amount of photo editing, so we suggest getting a free photo editing program called Paint.Net. This is a great program that handles most basic and advanced photo editing tasks.

2a. Convert your pictures to gray scale by selecting "Adjustments > Black and White" from Paint.Net's menu

2b. Resize your pictures to a size more appropriate for your Kindle. The maximum image size for an Amazon Kindle is 450 pixels high x 550 pixels wide. The resolution of the device is fairly low so you can use a resolution of 72 dpi when adjusting the size of your pictures. Select "Image > Resize" from the Paint.Net menu. Then enter the appropriate height, width, and resolution in the pop-up box. Click "OK" to resize.

3. Once you are done preparing your pictures for your Kindle, connect your Kindle to your computer using a USB cable.

4. Open up "My Computer" and then open the Kindle itself (or the Kindle's SD card if you have one installed)

5. You will see several folders, one for audio books, one for music, and one for documents (note - the audio books folder may not be on your Kindle if you have not downloaded audio books). Using Windows Explorer, create a new Folder called "pictures" and then a sub-folder in "pictures" called "family pictures" (Note: we're using "family pictures" for this example - you can name the sub-folders anything you wish - keep in-mind that the name of the sub-folder will appear on your Kindle Home screen).

6. Copy the pictures you have prepared for your Kindle into the "pictures > family pictures" sub-folder folder (or other sub-folder you've created).

7. When you are done, safely eject your Kindle. Click the Kindle drive icon in Windows Explorer, then click the "Eject" button.

8. Wait until the USB activity indicator on your Kindle has stopped blinking - then detach your Kindle form the USB cable.

9. When your Home Screen has appeared on your Kindle, press the "ALT" key and the "Z" key down together. Hold the keys down until the Kindle's display "flashes".

10. Use your Kindle's "Prev Page" and "Next Page" buttons to move to the end of the book / media list on your Kindle's Home Page. You should see the picture sub-folder you've created - in our example it's "Family Pictures"

11. Select "Family Pictures" with your scroll wheel and move through the pictures with your "Next Page" and "Prev Page" buttons.

Congratulations! You now know how to prepare, save, view, and enjoy your favorite pictures on your Kindle! While this might seem to be a fairly complex process, once you have done it a few times, adding pictures to your Kindle will go very quickly and easily.
