Kindle 2: Amazon's New Wireless Reading Device (Latest Generation)

Well, my new Kindle 2 has arrived! The first thing I noticed is that the box
is MUCH smaller than the Kindle 1.
Interesting - I know the Kindle 2 is a lot slimmer than the Kindle 1 but this seems a bit much. Of
course no need for a lot of excess packaging.
I think Apple's iPod / iTouch is a good example of this - pretty expensive electronics in very
little (but well designed) packaging.

Inside the box - basic black! Looks like the Kindle 2 arrives well protected.
Nicely embossed outer package - looks like the Kindle 2 is placed in a nice case.
Happy about that since I wondered about the case.

Well - it's not in a case! There is no case in the box. Notice the storybook line on the tear-away
to open the packaging "Once upon a time . . ." Well, once upon a time you got a case with your Kindle! OK - enough
of that - I'm pretty excited to see what's inside. Unwrapping the Kindle 2's inner packaging.

OK - here's what's in the box. The Kindle 2 is on-top well protected in
form-fitted packaging. Nice - instructions on how-to get started included on the plastic film covering the Kindle
2's screen. Since the new "digital ink" on the Kindle 2 is a big feature I'm anxious to turn it on and see how
things look compared to the Kindle 1.

In addition to the Kindle you get a charger and instruction guide. The new charger is nice -
smaller than the Kindle 1 charger and the USB cable can be removed and used in your computer to transfer files or
charge your Kindle from your computer. And - it charges my Motorola Blue Tooth headset!

OK - plugged in the charger cable and getting ready to fire-up the new Kindle. After having spent
countless hours with my Kindle 1 the new Kindle appears too thin! It will take some getting used to. This is a good
thing of course but there is a noticable difference.

OK - just turned the new Kindle on and away we go - unit is starting and we're just moments away
from see how Amazon has done with this new reading device. Check back for observations, news, and how-to
information on the new Amazon Kindle 2.
