College-Kindle to be Introduced May 6th?

Business Week gives a preview to an Amazon announcement on a larger-format Kindle being introduced to support the $5.4 billion per year college book market. According to BW, Amazon is partnering with universities such as Case Western, Pace and Princeton on the introduction. Several universities - it appears - will be subsidizing the Kindle for their students. The article also states that Amazon is likely partnering with newspapers including the New York Times on the launch. There is even speculation of a "folding-screen" Kindle to accommodate the larger format required for newspapers. We'll have more news on May 6th.

How Much Does It Cost to Make a Kindle?

Another Business Week article cites an analysis by market research firm iSuppli that finds the manufacturing cost of a Kindle to be $185.49. According to the article that's about "52% of it's retail price." Component costs include $60 for the screen - the  most costly part of the Kindle, and $39.50 for the wireless data connection module.
